Ok, I'll admit it. I really am 80's Toy Obsessed. For certain toys that is. I collect mostly My Little Ponies & Care Bears. This all basically started in 2002 when they started releasing Care Bears again. I never had one as a child, but always wanted one. Let's just say I've made up for that. :P I got the first 6 13" bears Carlton Cards sold in their stores, late in 2002. From there I just ended up getting more and more bears, and eventually started collecting both new Care Bears Collections they were putting out (See "About Care Bears"). Then, a few months or so later, they started putting out My Little Pony toys again! I did have a few of these, including one Plush (So Soft Bowtie), until they disappeared around 7 years ago when I moved. I was very attached to Bowtie, as I got her when I broke my leg badly in 5th grade, and used to keep her inn my wheelchair, then later attached to my walker. I'm pretty sure I had Peachy & the Pretty Parlor she came with, as well as Baby Moondancer, & perhaps 1 or 2 others. I had a Sea Pony too (probably Wavedancer), but since that was a bath time pony I think it got tossed out years ago.
I started getting a few ponies with the charms in 2003, then a couple more, and before too long I was finding myself grabbing every new one I found. My CB collection consists of only the ones put out from 2002 on. I just can't deal with old, used plush. I do have a bunch of pillow pal fabric from the 80s that I bought & washed, & can sew & stuff one day when I feel like it. I have My Little Ponies of all 3 Gens. I only collect MOC/MIB Ponies of all 3 Gens. I did for a time collect loose G1s, & I have a pretty large collection of them, but I will be selling them when I get around to it. Aside from that, in the retro toy department, I also have a good amount of the Rainbow Brite Merchandise I could find a couple of years ago when that too came back out. There is something I've always liked about Rainbow Brite. I had the 18" doll with the sparkly dress as a child. (Bet I don't have to tell you what became of her). I was so glad they put her out again, even if her dress isn't quite the same. The small one in the box from Hot Topic, is more like the original though.
In addition to the 5 or 6 Strawbery Shortcake Dolls I did manage to hold on to from my childhood along with their plastic Strawberry Case, I did break down & buy some of the new ones as well. A small one, then several of the large ones & most recently the Baby SS, mostly because it reminded me of the Lemon Meringue baby doll I had years ago that also disappeared. I still have My Jem & Kimber Dolls, a handfull of Barbies (which I never cared much for) and my original Cabbage Patch & Koosas Dolls. I also love stickers. Just about as much as I used to. I remember the days of going to the flea markets on Long Island & picking stickers out off these huge rolls they had all over. The only ones I managed to hold on to from back then were my Garbage Pail Kids Cards. I have accrued quite a large sticker collection in the past few years though. I've developed this new fondness for Build-a-bears. Generally I go less for bears & more for the other more unique animals.
I also collect Disney things of all different kinds. That stuff is mostly spread around the rest of the house, since it is a mutual collection, not just mine. Of course, I can't say my toy collection hasn't "leaked" out into other rooms of the house. ;) I have always had a great affection for Figment stuff which I suppose in a way has become quite retro in itself. Especially for anyone who remembers the original Journey Into Imagination ride with the Dream Finder at Epcot Center. The Haunted Mansion attraction is another favorite.
So where, you might wonder does a majorly overgrown child live? Why near Walt Disney World of course! I am a native New Yorker. I lived there until I was 24, before moving to South Florida for a few years, ultimately ending up here in Central Florida. I do love going to the Disney Parks as well as Sea World, because I'm wild about marine stuff too. If you visit my photo album page, you can see my most precious "collection" :)
