World Ducati Weekend 2000, Autodromo de San Marino (Misano Racetrack)
For the last six months we have been talking about the upcoming WDW2000
happening at Misano. Now, about one week after returning from the WDW2000,
I'm still very full of impressions from the event. We were 5 from Bergen,
Norway who headed for Italy and Misano racetrack. Altogether we travelled
about 4200 km (Bergen - Misano -
Bergen) on our Ducatis (a 996SPS, 996 Biposto, 855 FBF kitted 748, 748 Bip
and a 900SS ie).
The weather down towards Italy was quite rainy. The picture above is taken in Germany,
just after crossing the border from Denmark. We were more or less quite wet, and
a break was required. But the rain didnt stop us from having a great time..
Both the travellers and the Ducatis did the journey very
well. No accidents or breakdowns at all. It was also quite interesting to experience how little gasoline the Ducatis used on the autobahn. We travelled at an average speed of 140-160 km/h, and I normally refuelled 10 litres gasoline every 200 km. All the bikes used between 0.5 - 0.8 litres of gasoline each 10 km (average). The 855
FBF kitted 748 used most, my 748 Bip was the cheapest. The 855 FBF also had to refill about 1 1/2 litre of engine oil.
I refilled about 1/2 litre engine oil.
Both bikes and riders were put under a lot of stress during the travel down to Misano and on the return. We were driving on the autobahn all the way down. The
average speed (not including stops) on the autobahn was between 140-160 km/h. The speed limit on some parts of the autobahn in Germany is still free, and we did
also try out some higher speeds. Still, when driving at 190 km/h, BMW?s and Mercedes passed us. Even some cars I would not believe was able to drive in that speed
passed used. Scary.
The time schedule was very tight. Because of that, we stayed on the highway
(or autobahn) all the way from Denmark to Rimini, Italy. The traffic was not
to bad, although there was some heavy traffic on the German autobahn down
towards Italy. On our way back home the traffic was a little bit lighter.
We started the return on Sunday morning, and due to weekend there were not
so many trucks on the road.
We had a couple of stops due to traffic jams, one in Hamburg and a couple in the Alps (through the Brenner pass). The traffic jams was caused by road works. The
weather on the journey down to Misano vas not to good. Travelling on autobahn in heavy rain in 140-150 km/h was not a good experience. The weather on the return
trip was very good, not a single drop of rain.
Details about the trip towards Misano
Total distance travelled: 2110 km in (including stops and refuelling) about 27 hours makes a average speed of 78 km/h. Lowest fuel consumption total distance about
105 litres, highest 168 litres.
All road maps were printed from the Internet journey planners. As long as you stay on the autobahn such printouts are very good. I would not recommend driving
outside the autobahn only by using these maps. I suppose you need some more detailed maps.
The weather when we started on our way back home was not to good. In the morning there were some rain showers, and we were not to keen to get away. But after an
hour on the road the weather became great (not to sunny, but dry and quite warm). We followed the same route back home as down toward Misano.
First stop north of Munchen. We started about 10.00 and reached Munchen about 20.00 in the evening. We stopped at a beautiful German guesthouse close to the
autobahn. The second day we started about 09.30 and reached the border between Germany and Denmark by 20.45. We travelled more than 1000 km the second day, and it
was really great to park the Ducati that evening. The last day we "only" travelled about 400 km from the border to Hanstholm. From Hanstholm to Bergen by ferry.
