Liberia |
| As a kid I spent 2 years in Buchanan Liberia, when my father was working
on a big railway project, designed to bring huge deposits of iron ore out of Nimba
mountain 300 km from the coast. This was in 1961 to 1963 and I made many friends, none of
which I have met after leaving Liberia. When leaving Liberia, we were eager to see Norway
after two years in absence and did not think about the possibility that we would never
return to Liberia. As the years have gone by the memory of Liberia has always been there
and I have many time wondered about what have happen to the people I met there. Some time ago while going through some old stuff, I came across an old shoe box with lots of pictures from our stay in Liberia which my father had taken. Memories came flowing back of the paradise in the south and of the people I met there. What a wonderful time! I have tried to sort some of the pictures, links below, enjoy. BW images from the construction of the railroad from Buchanan to Nimba BW images from the Swedish school in Buchanan Among the pictures where these ones and I tried to remember the names, a long time has passed since 1961 and my memory is slipping. Can anybody help me? They are all people I went to school with in Buchanan, Liberia. Below is some pictures of the Buchanan area taken sometime in 1961 or 1962 by my father from the Lamco chopper. |
