If you are all new to GPS, it might be useful to start by using the GPS receiver in a simple way.
Start at step 1 in the list below and proceed to the next step as your experience grows.
You do not have to do all the steps, but most people complete the first four steps at least.
Consult your owner's manual to find out how to activate the different functions mentioned below.
- Just switch on the GPS receiver.
The GPS receiver will show you where you are, and your speed and direction as you move.
- Activate the tracklog in the GPS receiver.
The GPS receiver will also show you where you have been as you moved.
- Make a waypoint and press the GOTO button on the GPS receiver.
The GPS receiver will also show you the direction to the waypoint, remaining distance, estimated time of arrival etc.
- Make more waypoints and activate a route in the GPS receiver.
The GPS receiver will also show you the directions to the waypoints, remaining distances, estimated times of arrival etc.
- Connect the GPS receiver to a computer.
– Install program(s) on the computer to transfer, edit, sort and store your waypoints, routes and tracks.
– Install electronic map(s) and program(s) on the computer to visualise your waypoints, routes and tracks.
– Transfer detailed electronic map(s) to the GPS receiver.
- Connect the GPS receiver to a laptop or PDA.
– Install electronic map(s) and moving map program(s) on the computer, and observe your movements on the map(s).
- Connect the GPS receiver to an autopilot (mainly for boats!).
The GPS receiver will bring you from waypoint to waypoint ‘automagically’.
