ABOUT ME

Photography is one of my favorite hobbies. Most of my photography is nature related, and landscapes and nature are my favourites. Some years ago I started with macro-photography, which I find very challenging and enjoyable. I have been photographing for over 20 years, but more seriously since 1997.

Some years ago I purchased a new SLR-camera, and my interest for taking photograps increased. I enjoy the challenge of composition and the excitement of exploring a landscape for elements and angles that could make an image a bit more interesting for the viewer. I am self-taught and have no formal education in photography.

I enjoy travelling and have travelled widely, to Asia, Australia, Norh America and in several countries in Europe. Usually I bring with me my camera and take photos. On this web-site you can see pictures from some of these countries. More images will appear later. As you can see from the pictures on this web-site, I have also travelled widely around in Norway. Together the pictues from Norway show the great variations within norwegian nature and landscape.

EQUIPMENT

For several years I used a Canon EOS 30 as my camera, together with a Canon EF 28-135 mm f/3.5-5.6 IS objective and a Canon EF 70-200 mm f/4 L objective. Later I have replaced the EOS 30 with the digital Canon 30D and the EF 28-135 with a EF 24-105 f/4 L IS objective. I particularly like the user-friendliness of the Canon system, and the flexibility afforded by the bodies and electronic aperture lens system. The Canon autofocus is incredibly fast and accurate.

For macro-photography I use the Canon MP-E 65 mm f/2.8 1-5x lens and a Tamron 90 mm f/2.8 AF macro lens. The MP-E 65 is a high-magnification lens that can magnify the subject anywhere from 1x to 5x. Somethimes I also use the EF 70-200 f/4 L objective together with extension tubes between the camera and the objective. This combination means that I can increase magnification but still keep a distanse between the camera and the object. In macro-photography it's necessary to stop down the lens to provide depth of field and this demands the use of flash. My flash is a Canon Macro Twin Lite MT-24EX.

The use of a sturdy tripod is important when taking photos in low light and with small apertures/ long shutter times. My tripod is a Manfrotto 190 Pro B with a Grip Action Ball Head.

All analog images are taken on slide film and scanned into the computer with a Minolta Dimâge Elite 5400 Film scanner. In the computer I use Adobe Photoshop to edit and optimize my work.
