"Inspiration" and Inspiration

The dilema of being copied had made its way to me lately. I've seen it done to others, to friends and I'm not immune either, so I thought I'd give my personal opinion on the subject.
I had an astrologer friend when I was 15, he was the person I considered the wisest and most spiritual at the time. It was through him that I decided to learn astrology and it was then while I was in high school that I started dealing with being copied. One day I got so upset I called him to ask him for advice, because it really bothered me to have the particular same people do whatever I was doing (clothes, etc.), only after having seen me do it.
He said that while things may basically look or be the same, that in essence it's the person who conceives them from their heart and soul, that radiates through them. While those who copy, well, just look like they are copying.
I've stuck to this throughout my life, because let's face it, it's something that happens to artists who seek to create things that are new. I'm the person who wouldn't do anything that's already been done. What's the point? Breakthroughs aren't following another's footsteps, but conjuring your own new ways. Making use of our ability to expand our reality in new ways, being a visionary. These are the things that move me the most and so, to copy for me is pretty pointless.
Alot of people claim to have been inspired by another's work, and pretty much attempt to recreate what they have seen/heard, which to me is plainly and bluntly just copying.
Inspiration is to be filled by something from the heart, and to use it creatively is to express it in an unique and personal way.
I admire other artists who seek within them new ways, who spend years building up a style and niche of their own. Endless soul searching and lots, lots of work. Trying different approaches and doing away with whatever's not satisfactory, being a perfectionist and true to their desire to create art, which is the expression of their souls.
And I feel very sorry when I see others try to copy them. Yet although I may not know some of these artists personally, I can see clearly when someone's copying them and very much what my astrologer friend said, that true soul expressions radiate through those who conceived them and not through those who copy them..
