Life in Chippyland

It's getting a bit lonely in Chippyland. She's grown so much! And every now and then she gets really loud...

Poor plastic Fred doesn't seem to be much fun at all for Tien.. She just pecks at him every now and then.

We change her water, see if we missed her food, change her poo paper, everything, and to no avail her loud fit simply goes away after a day or two all on its own.

We've been wanting to get her a companion but have been dreading the thought of it meaning twice the work for us. It's lovely to have a budgie but let's face it, pets also come with a little bit of work and the fact that we find ourselves busier around here is what brings the question about: Will she be happier and less maintenance with a friend, or will a friend mean more maintenance and noise?

It's not so much cleaning the cage more, but the attention part. We think she's getting loud because she feels lonely. But then, we don't really speak bird, so we don't know for sure.

She's in the main room here, where were are always at, she sees us practically all the time but we're not able to give her completely personal attention that often. Her cage door is always open as well, she goes out mostly when she wants us to really see her, but loves being inside the cage most of the time.

And well, the obvious fact is that she's a female! Female budgies aren't as cuddly as male ones, and she may just not be so willing to come out and be social on her own because of this.

We're warming up to the friend option and might go looking for one after pay day.

Hopefully then Chippyland will be a bit of a happier place.

Enjoy some vintage Tien!
