The Chaffinch is one of, if not the, most common species in Norway. It breeds in all habitats. Most migrate to Europe, however some will stay in the Oslo area during winter
The Bullfinch is one of the winter feeders' favourites. It breeds commonly throughout the two counties in coniferous forest.
Ospreys can be found in the eastern parts of Oslo and Akershus. Several hunt in the Northern Oyern Nature Reserve. It arrives from mid-april, and uses the ice free coast until the ice breaks in the lakes in the first part of May.
The Greylag Goose is a rather common breeder in the Inner Oslofjord. It can be found both along the coast and inland as well.
Barnacle Goose increases in the Oslo area. Most probably, the population here origins from the release of birds many years ago. It breeds both on islands and in the eutrophic lakes.
The Dunnock is a common breeder in many sorts of habitats. A rather grey and dull looking bird, with a very pleasant song, though.
In every fourth winter or so, there is an influx of Pine Grosbeaks from the taiga. However, the species can be encountered every winter, allthough the numbers fluctuate much from one year to another.
The Goosander breeds in the forests of Oslo and Akershus, using old Black Woodpecker nests or other opportunities. During autumn and winter, they can gather in huge flocks, especially in Lake Oyern.
The White Wagtail is a common and "popular" bird among people in Norway. In Oslo and Akershus, it breeds commonly in many habitats, however especially dense near streams and rivers, where it breeds alongside the Grey Wagtail.
Blackcap is perhaps not the proper name on this female bird. This species is common in the Oslo area, arriving from late April. Some even stay to winter, however assumingly with low success.
The Trush Nightingale has increased a lot over the past 30 years. In Oslo and Akershus it can be heard in wetlands and in and around wet meadows and leaf woods.
Nutcrakers are quite common near Oslo, especially in the western parts. It is found in parks and both in broad-leafed and coniferous forest.

The Tree Sparrow has possibly increased over the last years. It is now more common than the House Sparrow in many places.
Lesser Redpoll left and (Common) Redpoll right. They are regarded as two different species here now, and both are rather common.
Pygmy Owl. A very nice bird which can be found in the forests surrounding Oslo. From mid-March, it's soft and Bullfinch-like song can be heard from dawn.

Great Black-backed Gull. Increasing along the coast of Oslo and Akershus. The increase of this species might be one reason for the reduction of smaller gulls and terns.
The Common Tern is decreasing in the Oslofjord. Very sad, but we still do not know the exact reason. Probably a combination of lack of food, increase of large gulls and problems in the winter quarter.
Tufted Duck. Has increased, an can be found almost in every small lake near Oslo.
The Crested Tit is a common breeder in coniferous forest. During winter, it can visit feeding places.
The Common Whitethroat is doing well, and has increased after the "crash" in the seventies. It can be found in several habitats, however seems to be more dense near the sea.
The Red-backed Shrike is a very nice bird, which arrives from mid-May. Previously, it's main habitat was close to fields and meadows. Today, it has occupied many of the young spruce plantations.
Tree Pipits are common in coniferous forests of Oslo and Akershus, especially at higher altitudes. It is the only pipit in our forests. Arrives mostly from late April to mid-May.
The Crane is a success story. It has increased in the two counties, and can now be found in many moors and marshes in the eastern parts of Akershus. Arrives from mid-April.
Siberian Jay. A much sought after species. It can be found in the very northern parts of Akershus.
Sparrowhawk. Quite common breeder in our areas. This one was trapped inside a building, and was brought out to freedom again by skill and a net.
