Jens
Olav Maeland have an unrealistic and unbiblical view of the conflict in the
Middle East
Jens Olav Maeland provides in an
article: Zionism and the Jews spiritual heritage. expression of some of his
views regarding the conflict between Jews and Palestinian Arabs. This article
was in Magazinet on 11-11-09.
J.O.M. collects his review around two issues,
and that is:
a) The Christian Zionism
relation to Israel and the Palestinian Christians and
b) The political Zionism relation
to human rights and agreements, which he claims has never
been observed.
J.O.M said that when Christian-Zionists support Israel, so we
do both the Jewish population in Israel a "disservice", and we oppose
the Christian Palestinians living in Judea and Samaria.
J.O.M believes that when we
support the Jewish state, so it leads us to encourage the utmost political Right
”Wing to step up violence against the Palestinian Arabs, and it will in time
lead to Armageddon.
For this it is to say the following:
When we support the Jewish state, so we
support both the Jewish population there, and we support the Jewish
authorities. Of these, there have been two types. There are those which
have given in to Palestinian Arabs and the world community's demand for
constant new concessions to Palestinian Arabs, and it is they which have put
the foot down for these coward and unrealistic demands. Right now we have a government in Israel that have recognized the fact,
that one can not only provide land and concessions to Palestinian Arabs, but
that one also must make demands on them.
J.O.M. believes
that a right-oriented government is a disaster for Israel. I believe that
Israel must have such a government. When it comes to negotiate with the
bandits, it requires the tension.
What is Armageddon, it will come regardless of the government
of Israel has. Armageddon is not a result of the
fact that we Christian Zionists support Israel, but it is a result of the
Palestinian Arabs, Islamists, and soon the whole world is against Israel.
Armageddon is God's verdict upon the world for the reason that the world has
opposed God's plan with Israel and the world. I thought that J.O.M. knew
it. He is trained theologian.
It is possible that J.O.M. is
right that we Christians should support the Christian Palestinian Arabs more
than we do. This I know very little, so I can not say much about, but I do not
think that any greater support for them will be a "key to peace and
reconciliation in the area."
This view is an expression of an unrealistic
wishful thinking. In the Middle East conflict,
we have not yet gone so far that it is the genuine Christian or Jewish ideas,
which will be decisive for a peaceful solution of the conflict. It is
unfortunately not at the negotiating table that peace will come, but it is on
the battlefield. The same says the old-Testament prophets, who also Jom refers
to in another context in his article.
It is not just what J.O.M. argue,
that when Christian-Zionists support the Israeli government, we are helping to
"deny the Arab Palestinian population the right to stay in the
country." In light of the many wars and conflicts which have been in the
area since 1948 of, so I think that the Israeli governments have given the
Palestinian Arabs too much without getting anything back without a new war and
new violence. The so-called Palestinian Arabs have been given
self-government in various towns and areas in Judea and Samaria. They will
build and live in Israel itself. They have
received the Gaza area.
J.O.M. also believe that the
Palestinian Arabs must get their "national homeland" in Samaria and
Judea. In this view, he is on a collision course with what the word of
God says about this. It says that Israel should
have both the Galilee, Samaria and Judea to a perpetual property. In
addition to the Jews, when the time comes, manage a larger land area in the
Middle East-from the Nile and the Euphrates.
The Jewish government has
nothing against the Palestinian Arabs living with them, but for this to happen
fully, the Arabs must also commit themselves to cooperate with Jews and not
deter them.
Finally, in his article refers J.O.M. to the spiritual
heritage that Jews have, and which commits them to live in accordance with it. It was broken both in the Liberation War in 1948, in
the Jewish invasion of Lebanon in 1982 and in the Gaza war this year.
It is amazing that J.O.M. can write this, for
this is wars that have been forced upon the Jews, and that they have had to
defend themselves against. On the battlefield,
it is not the general human rights or the spiritual heritage of the prophets which
decide, but it is the weapons of the war. In every war and conflict which the
Jews have had with their enemies, we are talking about survival and not to
comply with all treaties that have been signed. By giving expression to
this view deprives J.O.M. Jews the right to defend themselves.
The position of J.O.M. has
taken in this conflict, is both unrealistic, naive and unbiblical. As
Christians, we argue what the Bible says about this. It says in part that:
a) Israel is God's people.
b) Israel is God's country.
c) There will be war between Palestinian Arabs and Jews until the end.
d) Treaty will first come when Jesus comes back
and gets to create peace in the Kingdom of Israel.
