Troll
rally
Troll rally has since 1964 been arranged annually. It started as a blue print of english rallies, but soon Troll found it's own character. In latter years Troll rally allways takes place in Fyresdal in Telemark county, a region in south of Norway. The rally takes place in the last weekend of august. Troll has become an institution among rallies in Norway. In 2000 the rally gathered around 2.400 bikers (2.200 bikes?). 1999 there were 1.610 bikes and 1.946 bikers. In 1998 the numbers were somewhere between these numbers. Why the name "Troll"? Well, the rally takes place in surroundings perfect for trolls, as they are described in the norwegian folklore and fairytales. Camp area is located in a forrest with tall trees, nearby a lake. It's all protected by mountains on all sides. For all I know, Telemark county was probably the birthplace of the myth of trolls, with its mountains and deep forests. And of course, "troll" may also reflect the reputation bikers are labelled with by so called ordinary and nice people. |

I have put together some of my impression from my trips to Troll rally. I'm well aware of the fact that it won't pay respect to the experience of actual rallying. I've also included some Troll rally links, basicly for norwegian readers, but the sites' pictures speaks for themselves anyhow. |
