I was approaching a 110 degree steep turn, - called "Slakter'n" (The butcher), just finished braking and was about to make the turn. Then, from behind, I heard the familiar sound of plastic and metal scraping the ground, just as it sounds when a bike is sliding sideways. Though earplugs and the deep roar of my Ducati, the sound was so close that I realized that I was going to be hit.  In a nano second  or so later, a beast of a Kawasaki ZZR 1100 crashed into my rear, catapulting both me and my Ducati. My bike shot right up, - racers approacing from behind later described the scene as if my Ducati exploded, shooting right up in the air. Luckily, it landed next to me, - not on top of me.

-I finally got to test my  security gears...

Most plastic was smashed. The rear rim looked rather odd. Tank, backsits, all lights and blinkers, front frame for headllight broke.  Footrests, clutch and handlebar grips ruined.  Heavy scratches on slip ons and rear swingarm. I never figured out the amount of gravel penetrating the ignition key unit and other delicate moving parts.

...all agreed that it 'd been a memorable day...

My beloved 996 was declared dead 2004.08.02. Another 996, also red, was aquired a week later.
