Coffee
Coffee houses are national institutions, a gathering place morning,
noon and night. Not surprising for a country whose former colonies
- Brazil, Angola, Timor - produce some of the world's finest coffee.
Café - black coffee
Bica - powerful espresso-like brew served in a small cup
(usually the native choice)
Café grande - black coffee served in a large cup
Carioca de café - small black coffee with water added
to weaken it
Café com leite or Café branco - coffee
with milk
Chinesa - coffee with milk served in a large cup (a Maderian
term not used on the mainland)
Chino - black coffee served in a large cup (as above)
Garoto - small cup of coffee with a little milk
Galão - tall glass of coffee with milk
Meio galão - smaller glass of coffee with milk
Cafeteira - the small pot for coffee or tea
Leiteiro - the small pot for hot milk
Chá - tea
Limão - lemon
Carioca de limão - boiling water with lemon peel
