For Windows users, there are plenty of emulators out there to choose from. MESS can of course be used, but I prefer the zx32-emulator myself, and find it quite complete. The current build is version 1.03, and it has not been updated for some years now, but then again, neither has the ZX Spectrum! :) Another great Win32-emulator is the Real Spectrum.
