BACK TO MAIN PAGEGADDANG ORNAMENTS

Head ornament worn at the back of the head by warriors. The weaving is extremely fine, not only in size, but in that it incorporates a pattern. The woven main portion is probably of nito, and is relatively soft, but is supported by a wooden shell. The bottom is decorated with a two tone trim reminiscent of Naga decorations (Indo-Myanma border). The mother of pearl pendants are tied in an upward position for protection, however, are worn in a downward position. The beaded strap is worn over the forehead just under the hair line.

The art of weaving this quality is lost, and the artifact is estimated to be from the 1800's.
