How to modify antenna from '91spec. to +94spec.

When I removed my stock 1991 spec. rear wing, my antenna was sticking out from my rear quarterpanel. So I thought I had to buy a 94+ antenna to get it flush.

I looked around the Internet for modifications to my original antenna but didn't find anything.
In worst case I had to buy a new mast, so I decided to try to modify mine. :-)

Well, after a couple of working hours I had modified it to go flush with the rear quarter..
And here's how:

For removal/ installation procedure for the hole unit and antenna mast, I will refer to an article at www.mr2.com: http://www.mr2.com/TEXT/InstallAntenna.html

With the antenna still in the car (and fully extedned), I marked where the black plastic tube, that keeps the antenna from retracting complete, was flush with the chromed nut. Them I removed the nut and slided the plastic tube up and cut it off at my mark with a heated surgical knife, then made a longditudal cut to get it of the mast.

Inside of the plastic there is a brass tube that I cutted at the same height as the plastic, and longditudal to remove it, with a cut disc on my Dremel.

Now I tried to retract the antenna and found out that It still wouldn't fully retract... Well, so I had to remove the antenna assy from the car, and disassemble it. Ref: http://www.mr2.com/TEXT/InstallAntenna.html

After removing the antenne mast from the motor and gear casing, I completely pulled out the mast from the aluminium tube it slides in.

Then I had to remove the long plastic guide that is located inside the aluminium tube. I heated the tube with a heatgun to loosen the loctite it was glued with. And pushed it out with a rod that fitted inside it..

The stop that prevented the mast from fully retract is located inside, in the bottom of the white plastic guide. I used a long drill that is made for drilling through wodden-walls that had perfect fit inside the guide, to remove the stops. By hand, I pushed the drill into the guide until it hitted the stops, then I heated the tube with a heatgun to soften the plastic and started to drill away the stops (by hand). I drilled almost to the bottom of the guide and then test-fitted the guide in the alu-tube and mast to get the correct height of the stops. When the stops where reworked to the correct height, I cleaned the guide and fitted it back into the aluminium tube. I glued it with Loctite 290.

Finally I regreased the disassembled parts and reassembled it!
