OPEL REKORD A 1963-1965

This model replaced the P1 and P2 models. The engine is a 1680ccm 60hp DIN (Standard, Caravan) or 67hp DIN (De Luxe, Coupe). The extra output is a result of rising the compression from 7.25:1 to 8:1. Tire dimensions are 5,90x13 (Caravan: 6,40x13) Brakes are hydraulic, with drums front and rear, discs in front was an option. Empty weight 1050 kg, 380 kg load capacity (Caravan 1130 kg /470 kg) It has a 6 volt electric system and a 77Ah battery

In 1958 my father bought his first car. Until 1960 car sales were still restricted in Norway, but he got one because he should us it for business purposes. He got a Opel Rekord P1 van, with license plate D-5705. My brother and I spent several hours in back of the car, on holidays, and to visit my grandparents in Sandefjord. The car lasted for about ten years, going through several engines and reparations.. When I could choose a license plate for my car, D-5705 was the natural choice.
 

I bought my Opel Rekord 1964 in september 1997. It had been imported from Sweden with only one previous owner there. He took good care of the car and used it only occasionally, it had only covered approx. 70000 km (~44000 miles). It's a two door sedan with optional four speed box and disc brakes on the front wheels. Some dents and scratches are present and it has about 50 percent original paint, in light blue. I have most of the historical documents as the MOTS and service bills.

My car is what somebody calls 'a good runner' which normally means it's not in mint condition…

Driving an old Rekord is no problem., following the ordinary traffic conditions Especially after the 25 years old tires where replaced a while ago….
