About the author

Name: Kirsti Dahle, 42 year (Cancer), I live in Fredrikstad (the best town in the Østfold county!)

I've worked more than 17 years as a Rehabilitation Officer in the state-bureaucracy, at a District Employment Service to be more specific. Basically, my job was to assist people who need vocational rehabilitation. It was a demanding job, but also a great challenge.

In januar 1999 Adriaan van Leeuwen and I established "Prosjekt LIBRA veiviser - hverdagsliv". A project going on for three years. Our most importent goal is to focus on domestic and lifelonging demands for people with some kind of neurological muscular disease. We hope this project will state many importent new thoughts and ideas, and looking excitinge into the future  - time will show if this in any way become a permanent service.

For some time I have had an absolutely charming tenant called Mathilde. She is actually a he, something that came to my knowledge several weeks after I had picked him/her up at the pet shop. By then the name was well established and if it causes confusion of gender, so be it. You will find more information, and a photo, about Mathilde under Chinchillas . Some time ago I bought a female companion to Mathilde, - named Lano.
In march 1998 - totally unexpected, gave Lano birth to two wonderful babies, Easy & Funky. They could'nt live together, very close family relations are'nt reccomended, and Lano and Easy had to move out. Theire new families calls now and then, and both of them seems to having a good times. New pictures
here..

I live in a large wonderful house (home is my castle) together with Knut, and I cruise between work and home in a Chrysler Voyager SE Lux 3.3, a real wonder! If I'm not mistaken it is one of the most expensive cars in Norway (did I arouse your curiosity?) Read more about this by going to another site (coming soon..).

I spend much of my time working with the "Society for People with Muscular Diseases in the county Østfold", as chairman of this society. I am born with a neurologic disease called Spinal Muscular Atrophy, type II (SMA). For those of you who take special interest in the subject there is more information on my other pages. You can also find many references among "Recommended links".

To have a muscular disease, for many people mean that they are, or become, dependent of help from others to various degrees - every day - throughout life. In my case this is solved by the fact that my own local authorities "came to their senses" and made the resolution that "Personal Assistance" could be an alternative to the ordinary homebased services. In practice, this means that I have three assistants working part-time. The community is their employer, while I am the "foreman". Of course this means some extra work for me, but I prefer that any time in comparison to the homebased services - with lots of different persons to relate to..!! My personal experiences with this, you will soon be able to read about on these pages, but so far things are going just great.

My personal computer also takes up much of my time. television is somehow a little "out". On the huge Internet I have found lots of useful information, I have marked my favourite sites that I almost daily takes a glimpse at and I have experienced that it is useful in my everyday life. At last, but not at least, I have made new friends via the digital sphere (and actually - one day; "love was in the air"! ;-)) Friends and connections for both business and pleasure.

Mailing, as an example, is much quicker, and much more fun than the traditional letter "snail-mail", the possibilities are numerous if you dare to try. Why don’t you give it a try now, write me a few words!

I also try to find the time for my favourite "duty", being together with family and friends. Should there be any time left after the above-mentioned activities I will read, go to a concert, watch a good movie, go shopping (a dear past-time for me), and develop the more creative side of me by painting. I also hope to finish what I call "The Book", up till now it is waiting to be written.

Some of my interests

PC - Internet

Well of course. That's why I now at last have my own page. I have had the interest for many years, but it was not until four years ago I bought the equipment that among other things make it possible to surf on the net, to make publication and communicate with the whole world. It's exciting, but it takes lots of time. It can also turn into a rather expensive activity, my printer was "antique" after 2-3 months! I could have mentioned many examples, the development really moves on with seven-league boots. On the other hand, money is supposed to circulate, and I have chosen to not buy the latest in slalom-skis or a shining new Harley-Davidson.

Spinal Muscular Atrophy

I have just started this page, it will gradually be updated with information about genetics, how the disease develops, diagnoses, technical remedies, physiotherapy, problems connected to respiration, nutrition etc.

Chrysler Voyager

Attention! Soon there will be both pictures and a description of this rather rare car. My own experience with the wonder is best described in this way: "I used to drive a Ford Transit, now I drive a CAR!" Things like pedals and steering wheel are history, joysticks work just fine. Interested? If you think it takes too much time before I give out more information, give me a hint, I will be happy to put you in contact with this "super-customers"!

Music

This will only be a few examples, since there are so many good types of music. One thing is certain; life would be different without it, worse in my opinion! What kind of music, or which artist one would like to mention, will change continuously. The favourite of today is not necessarily the same one tomorrow. Right now it is the familiar sound of Supertramp from their latest CD you can hear in my living room. You are never in doubt that it is Supertramp you're hearing, just like we heard them "for ages". Actually something new has sneaked into their sound, it's a little more "jazzy". I don't think this has done anything to lower the quality of it. I also hold out Simply Red as a "delicacy", they really make it swing! Mick Hucknail has a voice it's hard to describe. I have all their CD's, one is always with me in the car. The concert they held in The Oslo Spectrum a few years ago was a treat. I only wait for the event to happen again. Another favourite of mine is a CD called Country, Rhythm and Blues, where singers from Nashville sing duets with colleagues from Memphis. This is something you just have to hear, the more often, the better.

This is only a few words about me, my life, and my interests and so many other things could/should have been mentioned. In the future some changes and adding will come, ..and hopefully I will manage to translate this, and some more of my pages into English.
