Kristin Groven Holmboe

The singer

I am a soprano singer and made my concert debut in 1989. The debut was very successful and ever since, I`ve had different soloist engagements. It varies from singing in weddings and funerals to larger oratorias. Among other works I have been singing Requiem from Mozart and Stabat mater from Pergolesi. I`ve altso been interested in the newer musical repertoire and in May 03. I was soloist with a choir in Oslo in parts from "Les miserables" and "The phantom of the opera".

I am quite familiar with the European lied-repertoire, and the music of the French impressionists is particularly close to my heart. I am one of the few singers in Europe who have sung the entire "Chantes des terres et de ciel" by Olivier Messiaen. I have a lot of Norwegian composers on my repertoire, and I`ve been singing Edvard Grieg`s songs with different orchestras in England.

I have also been working as a jazz-singer with many of the best jazzorchestras in Norway, such as Ytre Suløens Jassensemble, Magnolia Jazzband, Big Chief Jazzband and Ophelia Ragtime Orchestra.

Due to my family background, I`ve taken great interest in Norwegian folk music, and use often folktunes as part of mixed programmes.

The conductor

In more than twenty years I`ve been conducting choirs. I´ve always taken interest in using my choirs as an instrument, and to make amateurs enjoy an instrumental approach to their singing. During the rehersals I teach vocal technique to the choirs to help them to achieve better vocal skills. The basic icitament of the singing must nevertheless be joy and musical engagement. Today I conduct three choirs in Oslo and I lead several smaller choirgroups and groups of singers. If you are interested in joining a choir, you may contact me.

The song tutor

I give private lessons in vocal technique every Thursday at the Grorud Samfunnshus in Oslo. My pupils come from different backgrounds, varies in age and have a wide range of reasons to come to me. But I`ve experienced through the last twenty years of teaching that every one of them have the possibility to learn to sing with their own "beak".

The writer

It took me many years to learn that I could be able to express myself by written words, but today I have been writing for newspapers and the website www.alibaba.no the last five years. In addition to this, I`ve been washing and arranging litterature-translations from Farsi to Norwegian. In cooperation with Amir Mirzai hundreds of Persian stories have found a Norwegian form from my computer. Together we have altso written in Norwegian Persian poetry an novels by several Iranian authors.
