DANCES WITH SEA TROUTS IN DRIVA
- but for how long?

After a hot and dry summer, finally came the rain, and with it, the giant sea trouts of majestic river Driva in Western Norway. To the joy of a handful fishermen, who really got to dance with the big ones. We were lucky enough to be there during one of the last days of August 2003!

Driva has been the number one sea trout river in Norway for many years. Salmon faded out in huge numbers and sea trout practically took over the river after it was infected by the salmon killing parasite Gyrodactylus salaris in 1980.

Now this Sea Trout Paradise is in danger. Locals fear for the future of the big sea trout stock because Norway's nature management authorities wants to "clean" Driva and two nearby rivers with plant poison rotenone. ¨

Caught on tubes: After a long summer in the sea the sea trout were very well fed. Both were hooked on a large tube fly.

Comparing catches: During three hours some 20 sea trouts and one salmon was caught on the lower stretches of Driva. Here fishermen are comparing catches just before dawn.

BROWN TROUT ON STREAMER

One of the last days in June I went to a nice river in Finnmark, Northern Norway, to fish for brown trout.

A small evening trip resulted in two nice fish, 1,6 kilo and 0,9 kilo - both taken on the Norwegian streamer "Dynamite" (Dynamitt).

Nice salmo trutta for the grill. Yummi-yummi!
