Is it wrong to show pictures of dead fish on the Internet?

Strange as it may seems by many, the above picture has provoked certain fly fishing environments in the United States of America. Some fishermen apparently think it is wrong to kill fish, and even savage like to publish such pictures on the net.

My question:

Have they forgotten what fishing is all about?
This picture is taken in Alta river, Norway, and shows the catch of one party of fishermen during several days fishing. The largest salmon is well over 20 kilo's (44 lbs). All fish are taken on fly.

14. January 1997, the same day my fishing site was launched, I got this e-mail message:

IF YOU WISH TO ENDEAR yourself in the world of fly fishing, never show dead fish as it makes you come across like a typical anglo-saxon with an ego problem and it makes you come off as a typical fisherman that measures their importance by being able to show the evidence.

My suggestion to you is exchange the picture with one showing you cradling a nice salmon ready to be released. Never, never show dead fish in the commercial world of the Net if you want to be successful. Only a man can release a big fish. Bullies keep big fish because inside, they really are little people.

Think about it. Clothes may not make the man (like a picture) but it's 99% of what you see of them.

If you kill fish, make and keep it a private affair. I hope you listen to this sound advice as I do a lot of outdoor, commerical photography and if you want to set an example, you want to come across that you care about fishing. That you do not have the poacher's ethic. Millions of people will see your page and words. Be private and careful how you influence the future. Mr. George Gehrke
