Photo Gallery - Greece - Corinth or Kórinthos

Corinth or Kórinthos, a two to three hour drive (dependant on traffic) from our base in Vravona on the east side of Athens. Plenty to see when you get there. The Corinth canal is six km long and is a cut between the Aegean and Ionian seas, it effectively makes an artificial island out of the Peloponnese. When I return to Fredrikstad I am going to start excavating a similar canal with a silver spoon, that should please the council! Apparently it costs a private yacht (up to 10 tons gross) 104 Euro to pass this canal (per 2001)

01-09-2000 Corinth, temple to Apollo

01.09.2000. The ancient city of Corinth prospered under the Dorians who conquered it around about 1000 BC. With it’s central position the city has had varying allegiances siding with Sparta in the Peloponnesian war against Athens, and then with Athens in the Corinthian war against Sparta. The ancient city seems to have been destroyed by just about everyone at some stage or another, including earthquakes, the Romans, the Goths, the Turks, and the Venetians. Julius Caesar rebuilt the city at some point and pre Mycenaean pottery has been found there. Yet another temple to Apollo

01.09.2000. The Acrocorinth is a fort on the top of an impressive rock hill above the ancient town of Corinth, fortunately you can drive most of the way up. Great view when you walk the rest of the way up
