Welcome to the official web-site for Sweet Mother of God. We're a band from Toten / Norway. We play gloomy and melancholic metal - and yes, we've sold our souls ! On these pages you will find some information about the band, pictures, mp3-files and so on..... Our record company is Nocturnal Music (Italy), we signed a deal with them in March 2002 and our first record will be released in the late autumn. For the time being we do all booking by ourselves so if you want to gather people for a metal-night to remember, we're very interested in participating.....
Our music is inspired by bands like Black Sabbath (the Ozzy-stuff of course), Candlemass, My Dying Bride.....also credits to the Norwegian bands Theatre Of Tragedy, Trail Of Tears, The Sins Of Thy Beloved, and Tristania. To shorten this up, I guess you can say that we enjoy playing music with references to the darker sides of life - without mixing too much religion into it, after all we're not in the black metal genre. A hallmark of our music is a slow speed, but still the sound is filled with aggressiveness and heaviness. To front this "wall of doom" we have two equal vocals, a female melodious mezzo soprano combined with death vocals.
