Retrospect
Shorinryu Karate is a martial art wich was developed in the 17th century, in Okinawa, Japan as a mean of self-defense without weapons. The practice of this self-defense has been further systemized and developed for the training of both mind and body.
Shorinryu today has diverged into 3 branches of different Japanese description, but with the samereading of "Shorinryu". though these 3 styles may have different emphasis in theory and body movements, the spirit and ultimate goal of Karate training are the same. Many of today`s stylees, including Shotokan, derived from Shorinryu. The ultimate goal of the training lies, through diligent and continuous practice, in building a well-balanced individual of sound mind and body,
Our Shorinryu style, one of the three (3), is "Shobayashi" in Japanese description and was introduced to Montreal by Master Tsutom watanabe in 1966. According to the genealogy we are in the 7th generation of the style. Many have trained under master Watanabe`s instructions. Some have changed their style, others became independent to their own boss or even to becomechief instructor themself. However, many stuck with the original shorinryu style and have opened Shorinryu dojos (schools) as in U.S.A., Canada and Norway. In order to maintain the standar of the style, Master Watanabe regularly visit all the clubs keeping the Shorinryu system
Our mottos in Shorinryu Karate are EFFORT, PATIENCE and COURTESY and SPEED, POWER and EFFICIENCY in training.
