I have attached a text version of first draft of Pirates of the Caribbean (which includes a month/day/year date), after typing it out over the past few months. And I would like to confirm that, yes, the draft that is currently online IS the first draft. I have also brought this matter of the draft to (writer) Ted Elliott, and here are his thoughts about it: * * * The draft that is online appears to be our first draft. I just wanted to mention: under normal working conditions, we would not have turned in that draft. There are a number of things with which we weren't satisfied, and in a couple of instances, we actually already had better stuff in mind, but simply didn't have the time to make it work in the story (for instance: we knew we wanted to get Will and Jack into the cave before the rescue of Elizabeth, and we knew we wanted to do the Elizabeth blood sacrifice/"Waste not" thing -- we just didn't have a way to make it work). But in order to get the production underway in time for a summer '03 release, the studio needed a complete screenplay in order to begin budgeting and scheduling. So we gave 'em something we figured would be close enough to get started, knowing we were going to begin a second draft with Gore (Verbinski) immediately. -- Ted Elliott * * * The draft that is attached is correctly formatted, free of typos, and is a bit more accurate (in format sense) than the other version that is already on the internet.
