The island of Kvitsøy is a collection of 365 smaller
islands, whereof only four are populated. Kvitsøy consists of a
area of 5,7 sq.. km and have about 500 inhabitants. We have all we need like
grocery store, post office and a bank.
If we need something more, the ferry to Stavanger takes about 40 minutes.
Kvitsøy is known for its idyllic scene among the
skerries. Earlier fishing was the most important industry on Kvitsøy, but
today farming has taken over the leading role.
Kvitsøy has a lot of tourist attraction. The church dates back to 1620 and
is one of the most visited places on the
main island. There is also a stone cross from the Viking Age on the eastern
part of the islands. From the lighthouse
you have a perfect view all across Kvitsøy. This lighthouse has been a
leading and comforting land mark
for sea farers for generations. Kvitsøy has its own public school,
kindergarten, football club, meeting house
and local paper with its incredible 4 issues a year. Northern Europe's
largest radio transmitting station
is also situated on the eastern part of Kvitsøy. Kvitsøy has been an own
community since 1923, which means that it is 75 years. This was celebrated
during the "Kvitsøy Days" which are held annually in June.
