Sundtjønnhaugen Hill
- Our plans for a cabin/cottage -
After we sold Per-Kollo it's become more troublesome to visit the valley. We are of course welcome to stay with sister Hedvik and Odd - or Astrid and Helge but feel we can't stay for a longer while then. This has made us start planning for a cabin in the area and last fall closed a deal with a Heidal
farmer about buying a lot on his property, close to mighty Mt. Heidalsmuen.
Move your cursor over the photos to view the names of the hills etc.

Zooming in on the actual area. From Sjoa you're driving up Heidal Valley to the church where the valley turns SW. After a few miles the valley again turns, now south into Murudalen Valley, a remote area that wasn't settled until late in the 1930s. We found our preferred lot on the Sundtjønnhaugen
Hill, appr. location marked here by the little red square. About 3,250 ft. above sea level.

An aerial view of southern part of Murudalen Valley and Sundtjønnhaugen. Our lot again marked
by a red square. We have lots of relatives in Murudalen, mostly cousins.

Eva on the lot where we plan to build a cabin. Mt. Heidalsmuen (5,725 ft.) Hope to be able to start building this summer. Deal with carpenters recently made.

A view from the nearby Stålane pastures. The lot is on the opposite side of the hill on the right.
The distant mountains are west of Vinstra etc.

Nice cabins/"seters" at Stålane.

We have decided on this type, contract signed, from "Rindalshytter" in Møre & Romsdal.

A second alternative for a cabin lot that we finally rejected as it lacked el-power.

Small farms in Heidal Valley. ML, while you visited we stopped by the leftmost one here
to take a look at the Randen farmstead across the valley. Remember ?
The Rondane Mts. far behind.

Mt. Heidalsmuen again, seen from a different angle, from northeast. This is for sure quite a "lump".
A wellknown clairvoyant in the 1800s predicted that gold will be mined here one day.
Perhaps I ought to bring my metal detector
More from Murudalen Valley
