The North

There are four regions in the north of Benin; Donga and Atacora (formerly Atacora) in the West, and Borgou and Alibori (formerly Borgou) in the East. The area comprises two national parks; Parc National du W du Niger, and Parc National de la Pendjari, both known for amazing wild life, safaris and hunting. Lions, elephants, panther and tiger, are among the exotic animals that can be spotted if you choose to go on a safari.

But wildlife is not the only picturesque sight in the north. The northern markets are a celebration of sparkling colors, and the population it self is among the most beautiful peoples of Africa! The Fulani, also called the Peuhl, wear striking colors, amazing jewelry, and their facial tattoos range from the decorative to the intricate patterns that cover much of their faces. If you are lucky you can also meet the Bariba on their decorated horses.

Parakou in Borgou is the second largest city in Benin, and largely Muslim.
